Greg Rapaport has been playing six and seven string guitar and bass for over 20 years. Initially playing in local cover and original bands Greg has performed in many local and NYC venues. As an avid independent recording artist Greg has released four critically acclaimed CDs, “Wyrd”, “Azrael Block”, “Homunculus” and “Sojourn”. In addition Greg has been on tribute CD’s for Led Zeppelin “Get The Led Out“, Jeff BeckEl Becko“,and Jimi Hendrix Third Stone From The Sun“. Greg has been teaching for 10 years and and has enjoyed watching his students grow to become passionate about music.

Approach: “My teaching approach is to build a foundation of chords, scales, and basic theory while introducing students to their favorite music. Once the student has the physical ability to maneuver around the fretboard confidently we then delve into what genre the student is most interested in. From there we go on to build up the techniques necessary to compliment the student’s musical interests. Its important to me to have my students to really enjoy the learning process. I play 6,7, and 8 string guitar and 5, 6 string bass. I’m able to record backing tracks as mp3s for students practice over. I also record loops onto loop pedals that students may bring in for practice purposes.” I also enjoy teaching students how to write and arrange their own music. By giving them the tools, techniques and confidence I’ve had great success in bolstering the creative side of many of my students.”

What To Expect For The First Lesson: “The initial lesson is more or less an evaluation of the student’s existing experience/skill level with the instrument. I simply ask different questions about what they know regarding the guitar or bass and assess their level of play by some impromptu jamming. From this I’m able to get a good idea of how to prioritize concepts and skills for future lessons. I also ask about what types of music interests them and prioritize the different techniques necessary for them to achieve their musical goals.”

Recording: “I have been involved in audio production and recording/engineering since 1998. Having self released all of my own recordings. Over the years through hard work I have become well schooled in recording techniques, mixing and premastering.”

Influences: “Growing up my biggest influence was Jimmy Page. Since then I’ve enjoyed listening to guitarists like: Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Shawn Lane, Guthrie Govan, Scott Henderson, Michael Romeo, John Petrucci, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robin Trower, Steve Howe, Al DiMeola. Bass players: John Paul Jones, Jeff Berlin, Victor Wooten, Gary Willis, Jaco Pastorius.Greg is officially endorsed by Carvin guitars and amps.

Revew Excerpt:
“So in this instrumental release Greg mixes -always through a prism of pure rock energy- 7string riffs with jazzy chords and a twist of funk, especially in the bass playing. The end result is a wide variety of sounds and styles, while each progression smoothly succeeds the other in every song of this album, leaving you with a “what did just happen??” expression. And for
some that might question him as a guitarist, be warned, for he will shred your ears with his lightning fast playing and mastery of techniques.

Metal Perspective
Review Excerpt:
“The ten songs are complex and technical but in any case, Greg tries to do some musical demonstration. It’s more a matter of “musical feeling” then anything else. Even if his guitar playing is really good and complex I’ve never had the “boring” felling that we can encounter with some “guitar heroes”. Between the rage of a Symphony X on some songs (like “The Sojourner (Confined)”) and the technicality that you’ll be able to find with some bands like Dream Theater the music of Greg Rapaport is original and never boring.

Review Excerpt:
“At last, something I can soak my mind into. Greg Rapaport, in his latest endeavor, Homunculus, blends heavy metal, rock, blues, jazz, and his own unique touch to create an instrumental montage that deserves attention. Homunculus is a journey through all the aspects of human personality, and tracks are named according to each idea.
